live earth

so, do you have any idea how wasteful a concert bonanza like live earth is?

i don't, but i'm sure its pretty outrageous. i just think this whole thing is mis-guided. i really don't have much to say about it, but think about it for a minute.
get all those rockstars in one place (or i guess 10 places) from who knows where, some of whom travel with many tractor trailers and other vehicles in their convoys. the power it takes to make them all loud enough, it could go on and on.

think about it, and how backward to their cause it all is. i'm not against it, but c'mon, do it unplugged from gore's basement or something, only invite people who are within walking or bike riding distance, record it, and press it on to some sort of biodegradeable disc, pass them along hand to hand (the fuel it takes to ship music is appalling). etc.

you know what i'm trying to say

I got what you are trying to say. What THEY are trying to say is "look at me" . The performers pay lip service to a cause but have no interest in any form of self denial...they want us to deny ourselves but they are special. If we would only drive the hybrids and change to the other light bulbs and eat less meat and drive less and ride our bikes more and all the other crap they preach, then it wouldn't matter how much fuel their private jets and tour buses and limosenes use. Good article.

According to Carbonfootprint.com it they would have to plant 100,000 trees to "offset" the carbon created by Live Earth. The power used in that 24 hours was what it takes 3,000 Britons to use in an entire year.

I'm no Naturalist so I don't know the variables, but I wonder how many acres it would take to plant that many trees! ;~D
